Well I guess the there is no cure for stupid,

I am referring to the person who would have originally released them into the pond(s) and the guys who released them back into it.

I don't know how it can get much better. Most don't know which natives or invasives are supposed to be there, let alone the big colourful ones.

Because you can't put it on the BBQ and to give another fisher a chance to catch a big guy too! Razz

Most of us have probably done lots of enviromental harm without "knowing". Like every time we dump things in the trash. We are fortnuate to have a greater awareness bc of our hobby... but this is bigger than a few stupid people. Just my 2 fish pellets.

And to think that sometimes I'm scared of flushing duckweed in my sink when I do filter maintenance.

At least duck weed is a common aquatic plant in the wild from coast to coast in Canada. Koi may not be yet but Gold fish seem to have become common. Now if only Trout and other native species would learn to eat them first instead of their regular feed some problems would be solved. Sorry Steve not the answer you want to hear. Better if they were not dumped in the first place the fisherman well ignorance is bliss.

I sometimes wonder what other invasive things are in our local waters that we don't even know about.
Pathogens, waste water chemicals, tiny phytoplankton and zooplankton, It's be hard to tell really.

Personally I don't think your average Joe Blow is aware of the implications of such actions.

I had a lady contact me last year looking to move a few goldfish she had. She told me if I never picked them up by a certain day they would be released into a local pond, a pond that is connected to a salmon river. Sad

For Koi to be that abundant in the pond/lake it must have been more then a few released.

Sounds typical of a lot of people there have been more than a few ponds across Canada used this way.
