While certainly not ideal, Tigger and company are at least inside for the winter. He's not to impressed about being squeezed into a 250G tank, but hey it's better then being under the ice.

Those are not fish tanks, they a heavily reinforced aqua bunkers with steel girders and cage mesh. This is the equivalent to military grade hardware for commando goldfish.

BTW what is the flow rate. It looks like you have a custom built tank with heavy specs. Always curious to the SBenson over engineering.

The filter is a Laguna Powerflow 5000, supposed to be good for ponds up to 5000G. I got it for dirt cheap when a local Pet's Unlimited was closing up. I have two 170GPH pumps running plus two air stones in each. The turnover rate is not as high as I like to have it but it's what I had and it seems to be working well. The total water volume in the system is about 550G and I do a 200G water change every Saturday. I don't have a UV sterilizer on this system but it's not in direct sunlight and it should be ok for this time of year. If this is still running in March I will probably set one up for it.

That is one massive power filter. I googled the Laguna site and it is the mother of all power filters. That is one Big Toy in the sandbox.

Forget about the "1 inch per gallon" fish to aquarium gallon ratio. Here is an example of multiple exceptions to the rule, in fish size, fish waste, gallon volume, water flow and filtration.

It might be tighter than what they are use to, but at least they are comfy temperature-wise and they have a great, caring daddy who will ensure they are healthy and content for the winter months! They will be excited to 'spread their fins' come spring! flower

Actually I think it's about time to charge up the GoPro and get some underwater footage.

Yes please! You do a cool underwater video, and I'll embed it on the sidebar.

Why does this sound like one of those shark cage adventures? You know, where the camera man gets suited up in the steel mesh suit and enters the koi infested water inside the safety of a steel cage.
