Hello
I am new to the forum but have been reading through and you all seem really great! I am looking for some suggestions on which fish to add to my tank.

It is a 29 Gallon bow front that is moderately planted (hope to be heavily planted once everything grows in more)

I currently have:
8 neon tetras
4 silvertip tetras
1 panda cory

I definitely need to get a few more cories (i was thinking of 5 in total).

So i was debating on making larger schools of my tetras or is there a larger showier fish I can add. Everyone is really peaceful so I don't want anything that will get aggressive.

I appreciate any advice you have!

Hi - and welcome to the community!

Stocking is really a personal preference thing, after you consider the needs of the finned-babies of course (e.g. Numbers and compatibility). Wink

I would definitely up the group of cories if possible, as you mentioned. If my tank, I would also up the number of silvertips, maybe another four to make a nice schooling group of eight. But this, of course, is up to you!

What other fish are you considering for this tank?

Again - welcome onboard! Very Happy

Hi StacyVA, Welcome to the forum !

Great to have you here. You may wish to say "hello" in the Introductions section as well Very Happy

I like your current selections. I agree with you, more cories would be nice to see and they are very playful in a group.

You can have some great ideas for plants in the Plant Section. There are many members who can assist you with plant stocking ideas. I prefer Vals as draping background and large Amazon Swords as centre pieces. My favouite plant is the humble Java Moss. I love the look and artistry of Java Fern.

As for other fish, that if very personal. You have some nice schoolers in the tetras. Well I would advocate (not surprisingly) some livebearers (who would have guessed). Platies would add a nice splash of colour and they do not have the size of swordtails. They are very peaceful.

Again welcome and thanks for posting !

Thank you for your replies Alexmtl and Shell!

I know it’s totally personal but I am sure there are a number of fish that I wouldn’t have even considered so I appreciate suggestion or combinations that have worked out well for others 

My original stocking list was going to be:

6 x Neon tetras
6 x Bloodfin Tetra
6 x Panda corys
4 x Platy
1 x Pearl Gourami

As you can see I’ve altered it slightly ,

Getting more neon’s and silvertip tetras instead of bloodfin’s.

I think platies would be a good addition but I am cautious about the gourami. I’ve read that the pearl gourami is Ok in a community with peaceful fish but would love some feedback. Or other single large fish I could keep with my schools of tetras.

Otherwise I thought about just making larger schools of the fish I have… or adding another small school of another tetra there are a lot to choose from.

@alexmtl
I will have to check out the plant section as well!

I love java moss also, I just ordered some from The Plant Guy last week and tied it to my driftwood, I can’t wait for it to fill in!

What you have right now is all South American, so why not stick with it?
I'll suggest some favourites that show up in pet stores here on a regular basis:
glowlight tetras;
black neons (I love that fish):
the magnificent rummy nose tetras:
any pencil fish;
if the top is tight (these are jumpers) I highly recommend hatchet fish. They hug the surface but can provide a showy focal point with their size.

All like to be in groups of six, and all will run with the fish you currently have. You could choose between them. I would avoid bloodfins as every time I have had them, they have been fin nippers.

I would not add another species to the midlevel as in my opinion it would look very busy. I would rather up the numbers of the fish you have and add a centre piece or top level fish.
