Tank set up question Empty Tank set up question

Post by Sandman1969 Sat Sep 06, 2014 3:50 pm

I am almost ready to put the koi, fantail, 1 ID shark & the female pleco into the 125 gallon tank. My plan is, until I can get the 20 gallon tub filter built, is to use the 2 HoBs that are currently in use on the 30 gallon & the XP3 that is currently running on the 130 gallon.
Since these have been running for at least a year now, would it be ok to just fill the 125, get it to temp & move the fish over?

By removing 1 ID shark & the female pleco, it would lower the bio load on the 130.

do a couple of things.
take come of the bio media in your 10g tub filter on the 130g and use it as part of the filter media in the XP3

Then give a good swish of any media you have in your HOB in the water after its to temp.

All of this will help you kickstart the bacteria colony in the new tank. Just monitor your parameters during the first few days. it can take a week for all of the bacteria to get settled.

The 10g tub has those pot scrubbers. I can take a few of those out for the xp. Think there's an open tray in it still.
Which water did you want me to swish it in?
